Introduction To Engineering Design

Designed for 9th or 10th grade students, the major focus of IED is the design process and its application. Through hands-on projects, students apply engineering standards and document their work. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor) to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work using an engineer’s notebook, and communicate solutions to peers and members of the professional community.

Students who excel in this course will have opportunity to take an industry-recognized Autodesk Inventor Certification test. Many of our students are now certified users with a highly sought-after, real-world skill. Exceptional and creative students will even be able to experiment with rapid-prototyping as our department houses a remarkable 3D-printer.

This is a foundational course that is required before taking specialization courses (CEA, DE, AE, EDD, etc...). Students who have not completed IED may enroll in specialty courses provided they also in enroll for POE or IED for the 2013-2014 school year.
